Awards

Originally from Massachusetts, Helen has lived in Seattle for the past five years, where she has performed with many area theaters. Past favorites include Lotty in Enchanted April at Harlequin Productions in Olympia, Madeline Rousseau in Border Songs at Book-It Repertory Theatre, and Tracy Lord in The Philadelphia Story at Bainbridge Performing Arts. Helen holds a B.A. in Drama from Vassar College, and an M.A. in Theater Movement from the Boris Shchukin School in Moscow, Russia.

In the fall of 2003, Helen was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study the Droznin Method of Theatrical Movement at the Boris Shchukin Theater School in Moscow, Russia. Helen first met Andrei Droznin in 2002, while studying at the Moscow Art Theater School during a study abroad program hosted by the National Theater Institute (NTI). The vigorous physical training method appealed to Helen's ballet roots, and she discovered she had an aptitude for the acrobatic and combat elements of the training.

Although the Fulbright was only for a year, Helen remained in Moscow for another year and half, in order to receive her Master of Arts. Helen graduated with her M.A. in Theater Movement in 2005, the third American to have received that honor.

While in training, Helen worked as a Teacher's Assistant. at the Moscow Art Theater School, as well as at Harvard's Institute for Advanced Theatre Training. Mr Droznin is a professor at both institutions. Since returning to the U.S, Helen has primarily used her training as a foundation for her own acting work. However, she has taught combat and movement at the Westfield High School, Issaquah Middle School and has led classes and worked at a combat coach for Two Hours Traffic, a Seattle fringe theater.
